In 1992, I was a year into a job I loved, but I was beginning to burn out. Overwhelmed, I handed in my resignation, but my manager insisted that I go on a vacation and postpone my decision until after my return. That vacation changed my life.
Today, I talk about what I learned from my experience with this supportive and empowering manager. I share his wise words on the power of planning your work around your leave instead of the other way around. I note that, in large part thanks to that experience, I ended up staying with that company for 17 years.
