To WIG or not to WIG? That is the question (#45)

Often, it’s easy to have so many priorities that we lose focus and fulfill them all poorly. Setting a Widely Important Goal (WIG)  is alternate method of goal setting that results in more productivity, engagement, and commitment from your team.

Today, I go into what a WIG is and why you need to set one. I explain why end-of-year reviews tend to be unfair and why the WIG method is a fairer and more effective way to gauge your team’s productivity. I introduce the 4DX principle, and I note the importance of narrowing your focus and picking your battles. I explain why you shouldn’t dictate, and why each level of your organization needs to be allowed to define its WIGs. I note that the low-level WIGs need to be in line with the high-level WIGs. I talk about the importance of accountability across the board, and I emphasize that you need to follow through on your WIG despite competing priorities.
